It’s a sugary fruit with high vitamin A content, as well as iron and phosphorus.  In different regions of Colombia, it is attributed with medicinal properties such as purifying the blood, reducing albumin in the kidneys, relieving problems of the throat, strengthening the optic nerve, clearing cataracts, acting as a calcifier, and controlling amebiasis.
